What is Forming Fabric?

Forming fabric is one of the paper machine clothing, which is an industrial fabric on the paper machine and plays a key role in the paper forming process.
Forming fabric is often used in the forming part of the paper machine. It plays a role in carrying and transporting pulp for dehydration and forming in the entire paper production process, which determines the performance and quality of the paper. According to the structure, it can be divided into single layer fabric, 1.5 layer fabric, double layer fabric, 2.5 layer fabric, and triple layer fabric. Each fabric meets the needs of different paper machines and paper types.

Advantages of SUN HONG Fabrics

Better Stiffness and Dehydration Effect

Even at high speeds, it can still maintain high longitudinal and transverse stiffness and rapid dehydration, with a longer life cycle and less downtime.

Better Fiber Support for Smooth Paper

Sun Hong forming fabric have more fiber support, smaller surface warp and weft thickness differences, and more uniform overall distribution.

High Personalized Needs

Integrated solutions can be customized for customers based on different mesh structures, mesh length and width, machine speed, pulp composition, etc.

Important Features

In paper production, there are huge benefits in choosing forming fabric that matches the paper machine. Designing an excellent forming fabric can optimize the operating efficiency of the paper machine and the quality of the finished paper. Therefore, the structural design and performance parameters of the forming fabric are particularly important, as follows

Sun Hong SSB triple layer forming fabric

(1) Flat Surface

The smoothness of the mesh surface has an impact on the paper on the reverse side of the wet paper, the two-sided difference and the smoothness. Generally speaking, the more fiber support points, the more even the overall distribution, and the smaller the thickness difference in the surface layer's longitude and latitude. Therefore, the better the surface flatness of the fabric, the better the flatness and fineness of the paper.

(2) Thickness of the warp and weft

So far, high speed paper machines basically use 2.5 layer and triple layer fabric. The smaller the thickness of the warp and weft used in the mesh layer, the smoother and finer the paper surface is. The bottom weft is mainly the wear surface. Sun Hong generally chooses a coarser one to ensure the wear resistance of the forming fabric.

(3) Air permeability

CFM is a commonly used air permeability, which is expressed as the total amount of air passing through one square foot per minute under an air pressure of 125Pa. The higher the air permeability, the better the pulp water filtration performance.

(4) Fiber support point

The fiber support point is the number of longitude and latitude points supporting the fiber in each square centimeter of the forming fabric. Generally speaking, the higher the fiber support point number, the higher the fiber retention rate in the finished paper. When the fiber support point number is low and the mesh is dehydrated too quickly and the vacuum number is large, the fiber is easily sucked into the forming fabric. When the paper and the mesh are peeled off, the paper surface is prone to be pulled. The pulled out single fiber is prone to cause the felt surface to stick to the pulp and the drying cylinder to have more paper hair in the later stage.

(5) Thickness

Due to the increasing speed of paper machines, dehydration is particularly important. Under the same design of forming fabric, if it is necessary to improve the dehydration performance or smooth the surface and maintain the same speed, it is necessary to reduce the thickness to shorten the dehydration time and improve the throwing water problem.

(6) Longitudinal and transverse stiffness

The stiffness of the forming fabric reflects its ability to resist deformation. The higher the stiffness, the better the ability to resist deformation. The higher the longitudinal stiffness, the less likely the forming fabric is to deviate during operation. The higher the transverse stiffness, the less likely it is to bend during operation. High stiffness in both longitudinal and transverse directions is beneficial for high speed paper machines.

Sun Hong Forming Fabric Series

Single Layer Fabric

Single layer fabric is the most basic forming fabric structure, commonly used in low speed paper machine. According to the structure, it can be divided into 4 shed, 5 shed and 8 shed. Among them, 8 shed is the most durable. It uses two kinds of wefts, the upper weft is thinner and the lower weft is thicker. Nylon single wires of the same thickness are added to extend the life of the forming fabric and make it more wear resistant.

1.5 Layer Fabric

The 1.5 layer   fabric is a transitional structure between the single layer   fabric and the double layer   fabric. Sun Hong has optimized the weaving structure to make it have both the economic advantages of a single layer and the performance advantages of a double layer. It is suitable for medium and low speed paper machine and provides good pulp forming and dehydration capabilities.

Double Layer Fabric

Double layer fabric Sun Hong uses two layers of independent weft yarns. The upper weft yarn density is higher for fiber forming to ensure the smoothness of the paper surface, and the lower weft yarn is coarser to enhance the strength and durability of the forming fabric. Compared with the single layer forming fabric, the double layer can better support the pulp fiber to prevent the fiber from falling off, forming a more uniform paper structure. Suitable for medium and high speed paper machine.

2.5 Layer Fabric

As one of Sun Hong's best selling forming fabric, the 2.5 layer   fabric provides strong support and dehydration performance through the upper and lower layers of yarn. At the same time, Sun Hong adds a layer of transverse yarn to enhance the fiber distribution and support the wet paper sheet in the internal structure of the fabric. It has both air permeability and fiber support, and can maintain excellent dehydration and paper web stability even at high speed operation. The 2.5 layer   fabric is often used in high speed paper machines and is suitable for making high grade paper.

Triple Layer Fabric (SSB Forming Fabric)

As a high end product of Sun Hong forming fabric series, the triple layer fabric adopts a triple layer structure design. The upper layer has the highest density and uses finer yarns to improve the retention rate of fine fibers and effectively improve the uniformity and flatness of the paper. The middle layer of yarn connects the upper and lower layers to prevent slippage. The lower layer uses thicker warp and weft lines, which are strong and wear resistant, providing strong support and stability. The triple layer fabric has the best paper quality, strong dehydration ability, high stiffness, long life, and more stable operation. It is widely used in high speed paper machines and is suitable for the production of high end cultural paper, toilet paper, etc.
